Jim Melton has over 35 years of experience as an environmental professional managing complex National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental impact statements (EISs) and environmental assessments (EAs) and managing staffs composed of engineers, scientists/resource specialists, and technicians. As a Senior Project Manager for Environmental Planning Group, LLC (EPG) based in Helena, Montana, his responsibilities include project management and business development presently focused on oil and gas exploration and development and mining in Montana and neighboring Rocky Mountain States. Jim has over 23 years of experience in federal service, where he worked in management positions for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for 18 years, and as Regional Environmental Program Director for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) for 5 years. His experience includes directing Nationwide Programmatic EISs and Statewide Programmatic EAs for BLM, and as a result of his superior performance he received many outstanding service awards from BLM, as well as DOE’s Distinguished Career Service Award. Jim provided leadership for NAEP when it was most needed to maintain itself as a National Association. He served consecutive terms as a NAEP Board of Director during 2003-2006 and was elected NAEP President for 2008-2009, and served as President during 2007 when President Brian Moyer had to vacate the position midterm due to work overseas. He also served as Vice President in 2006-2007. Jim led the establishment of the NAEP National Environmental Excellence Awards Program, and served as Chairman of the Awards Committee for seven years and he presently serves on the Awards Committee. Jim also served as NAEP Liaison to the President’s Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) for three years. Jim is committed to maintaining NAEP as one of the best organizations for environmental practitioners. He continues to seek initiatives that increase membership and recruited many members who have served in NAEP leadership and management positions. |
