Our panel consists of three expe rts in a broad range of environments who will each speak from different per spectives about solutions to the same underlying issues.
Nan Renner, Senior Director of Learning, Design, a nd Innovation, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, UC San Diego, will speak about he r work with UC San Diego’s Birch Aquarium at Scripps and CREATE STEM Succes s Initiative. Nuriyah Boné-Owens, Diversity and Inclusion Consultant, will speak about setting the foundation for programmatic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and Sharon Minchak, Talent and Technology Operations Director, Jacobs Environmental Solutions, will s howcase some of their initiatives that have been successful and talk about what that means.

Sharon is the Operations Director for Jacobs’ Environmental Solutio ns Talent and Technology team of over 2,000 staff. Additionally, Sharon ser ves as the Jacobs’ Global Solutions Director for Remediation and Regenerati on. She is a geologist, with a B.S. in Geosciences from The Pennsylvania St ate University, an M.S. in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico and is a licensed Professional Geologist. Sharon has 29 year s of global experience serving a diverse set of government and private sect or clients, working across all aspects of the Environmental Solutions marke t from planning and permitting, to regulatory compliance and sustainability , to investigation, remediation and regeneration.
In her roles, Sharon interfaces with the full spectrum of Jacobs’ Env ironmental Solutions practitioners, from junior entry level staff to our Fe llow level technologists. Sharon works with Jacobs’ teams around the globe to deliver stand-alone environmental projects as well as leverage our multi disciplinary expertise as an enabling capability on infrastructure projects . Educat or, designer, cognitive scientist, and administrator, Nan Renner works with colleagues and collaborators to promote engagement, learning, and educatio nal equity. Through her work with UC San Diego’s Birch Aquarium at Scripps and CREATE STEM Success Initiative, she connects learning across the lifesp an in multiple settings, in schools and outside of schools. She promotes ac tive experiential learning through programs and exhibits, ultimately strivi ng for greater curiosity, creativity, compassion, and collective action. Cu rrent projects focus on climate justice, partnership with Kumeyaay, native people of San Diego County, art/science/technology integration, and deepeni ng connections with nature and place.
