Join MAREP to learn how computer modeling can be used to build s takeholder consensus in water resources management.
Wh at constitutes best management in water resources is a fundamentally values -based decision, and the "best" options are often discovered through collab oration among stakeholders. HydroLogics helps clients determine best manage ment options for their water supply through exploration of different modeli ng scenarios. This webinar will describe a Computer Aided Negotiation proce ss that leverages distributed knowledge and formal negotiation techniques t o find novel solutions and bridge divides between parties. This negotiation process can lead to solutions that are not only effective but also agreed upon by consensus, and likely to survive the strain placed on them in times of actual drought. This is a timely topic, given rising demand for water a nd the likely disruptive effects of climate change.
A. Michael Sheer is Senior Policy Analyst at HydroLogi cs, Inc. Over the last thirteen years, Mr. Sheer has engaged in helping des ign new methods for managing reservoir systems throughout the US and Canada . His particular specialty is in designing and using river system models fo r running collaborative modeling programs directly with stakeholders. Servi ng as an interface between interests as diverse as agriculture, industry, m unicipalities, and environmentalists, this work builds bridges and leverage s shared expertise to find novel solutions to particularly sticky problems.
