Marie is principal and owner of Sapphos Environmental, Inc. She is an environmental compliance specialist with more than 35 years of experience in managing public- and private-sector projects that require strategic planning, environmental compliance documentation, and resource management. She is recognized by the Los Angeles Bar Association as an expert on the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). She has extensive experience with environmental compliance documentation for capital improvement projects for transportation, energy, recreation, health care, and water.

Betty Dehoney, CEP, ENV SP, PMP - NAEP President

As one of the principal senior environmental planners for HDR, Betty is responsible for the delivery of complex environmental documents (including NEPA, CEQA, SEPA, ESA, CWA, 106, other state and local regulatory programs, etc.) for major infrastructure programs. She is responsible for the technical accuracy of environmental documents, strategic guidance to agencies to support the navigation of the projects through the regulatory process, and mentoring staff for their professional growth. Her projects have included large scale water delivery, water resources, habitat conservation programs, wetland restoration programs, transportation, and energy development. With a master’s and bachelor’s in biology, much of Betty’s project experience has focused on creating sustainable solutions for challenges with natural resources. 

Betty is currently President of NAEP and has served as Vice-President and Publication’s Pillar Chair. Betty’s activities have been recognized by her peers in many arenas, including recognition from the California Chapter of AEP for Outstanding Contribution to the Environmental Profession: AEP President’s Award, Innovative Chapter Programs.  CEQA Initial Study Evaluation; Certificate of Merit recognition for several environmental documents; and Outstanding Chapter Activity – Legislative Committee (Committee Chair).

Ron Deverman, CEP, is Associate Vice-President and Principal Environmental Planning Manager for HNTB, a national engineering, architecture, and planning firm, managing environmental impact assessment projects for transportation infrastructure improvements such as transit, passenger and freight rail, roadways, and bridges. Ron has over 34-years-experience and he was recently awarded the HNTB Fellow Award for his exemplary commitment and dedication to HNTB and the environmental planning professions.  Ron is a Past President of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) and he was recently awarded the NAEP Fellow Award for his exemplary service and commitment to NAEP and the environmental professions.

Michelle Rau, PMP, Jacobs Senior Project Manager and NEPA Practice Lead

Michelle has over 20 years of experience as an environmental planner and over 15 years of experience as an environmental project manager. At Jacobs she currently serves as the NEPA practice manager and leads a group of nearly 200 environmental practitioners. She works as a project manager, sales lead and technical lead on Federal environmental compliance projects, including large scale and controversial EISs, involving individual projects involving more than a billion dollars of infrastructure. She has managed nearly all aspects of the environmental compliance process, including NEPA, Executive Order (EO) 12114 (international NEPA), Clean Water Act 404 permits, ESA Section 7 consultations, NHPA Section 106 consultations and state, county, and regional permits. She has worked for many federal clients, including DoD (Army, Air Force, USACE, DARPA and NGA), NASA, BLM, FEMA, FHWA and NSF.  Michelle has been an active member of NAEP for over 10 years, and currently serves on the board of directors as well as the NEPA, marketing and publications committees. She currently serves on the NAEP Executive Committee as the NAEP Secretary.
